Overview

Al-Mas'udi relates how al-Zabba, queen of Syria up to the Euphrates, killed Jadhima al-Abrash, and how she herself fell by the trick of Qasir. 1

The account

Al-Mas'udi says that al-Zabba led Jadhima to desire her until he was killed. Then Qasir dug a tunnel under her bed, and came in to her inside a chest carried on a camel, and came out upon her with his sword drawn. Some say that she sucked a ring that contained poison, and said: "By my hand, not by the hand of 'Amr." The city was ruined and the children taken captive. 1

He reports that she did to Marid, the fortress of Dumat al-Jandal, and to al-Ablaq, the fortress of Tayma, what she did, until they were beyond her reach. 1

This is an account from the pre-Islamic reports, and it rests on the source alone.
