Overview

Ali al-Salabi reports that the armies of France entered Algiers in 1830 CE, after the Ottoman caliphate had grown weak. Their strength was about twenty-eight thousand fighters, with a fleet of a hundred ships. 2

He reports that the European states supported this, because they saw that the time had come, as they claimed, to divide the inheritance of the "sick man". 2

Al-Salabi asks about the position of Muhammad Ali Pasha, who kept silent about the occupation though he was near and able, and he sees this as evidence that his project was tied to European settlements. This is the author's judgement, not the museum's. 2
