Overview
Algiers: a city on the coast of the sea. Ibn Battuta passed through it on his way from the Maghrib to the East. 1
According to Ibn Khaldun, Bulughin ibn Ziri ibn Manad al-Sanhaji founded it by the order of his father and in his time, and it is attributed to the Banu Mazghanna, in the days of the Fatimids in Qayrawan. 2
In the sixteenth century
It was the capital of naval holy war in North Africa. The brothers Aruj and Khayr al-Din Barbarossa entered it and ruled it, and from it Khayr al-Din joined the Ottoman state after he had strengthened its fortifications. 3
