Overview

A war between the Banu Jahjaba of the Aws and the Banu Mazin ibn al-Najjar of the Khazraj, according to Ibn al-Athir. 2

The cause

Ka'b ibn Amr al-Mazini had married a woman of the Banu Salim, and used to visit her. Uhayha ibn al-Julah, lord of the Banu Jahjaba, sent a group who lay in wait for him and killed him. 2

The fighting

Asim ibn Amr, the brother of the slain man, prepared with his people and told the Banu Jahjaba of the war. They met at al-Rahaba and fought fiercely; the Jahjaba were routed, and Uhayha fled with them. Asim caught up with Uhayha as he entered his fortress, shot him with an arrow, and killed a brother of his. 2

The two sides were the Aws and the Khazraj.

حرب سمير

The first dissension and war among the Ansar: over a Ghatafani's horse at the Banu Qaynuqa market, Samir of Banu Amr ibn Awf killed the client Ka'b ibn al-Ajlan; the quarrel over the client-half diyya became a war that drew in every clan of the Ansar, until al-Mundhir ibn Haram al-Najjari — grandfather of Hassan ibn Thabit — arbitrated full blood-money and a return to the old custom; the hatred had by then taken root.
