The stoning of the Ghamidi woman
رجم المرأة الغامدية
c. 631 CE · 9 AH
In 9 AH a woman of Ghamid came to the Prophet and confessed to fornication; he repeatedly turned her away hoping she would recant, then deferred her until she bore and weaned her child, whereupon she was stoned — an application of the prescribed penalty which the Prophet described as a repentance that would suffice seventy of Medina's people were it apportioned.

The account
She confessed before the Prophet, who turned her away until she confessed fully and insisted; then he deferred her until she bore her son and weaned him — and she was stoned after the weaning 2. The Prophet said of her that she had repented a repentance which, if divided among seventy of Medina's people, would have sufficed them 3.
For young visitors
