Abu Afak

An old man of Banu Amr ibn Awf, then of Banu Ubayda, of al-Aws; Ibn Ishaq says his hypocrisy became open when al-Harith ibn Suwayd ibn al-Samit was killed, and he composed verses reviling a rider who had split the unity of the sons of Qayla; the Prophet ﷺ said 'who will deal with this wretch for me?' and Salim ibn Umayr (may God be pleased with him) killed him; Umama al-Muzayriyya's verses allude to his great age.

موجز

رجل من بني عمرو بن عوف ثم من بني عبيدة، لا يسمّيه ابن إسحاق إلا بكنيته. 1 يقول إن نفاقه «نجم» أي ظهر حين قُتل الحارث بن سويد بن الصامت، فقال أبياتاً يذكر فيها وفاء أولاد قيلة لعهودهم وأن راكباً جاءهم فصدّع جمعهم. 2 فقال النبي: من لي بهذا الخبيث؟ فخرج سالم بن عمير فقتله؛ انظر الخبر ومناظيره. 2 وفي بيتي أمامة المزيرية أنه أُصيب بطعنة آخر الليل «على كبر السن». 2

Ibn Ishaq relates that Abu Afak, of Banu Amr ibn Awf and then of Banu Ubayda, showed his hypocrisy openly when al-Harith ibn Suwayd ibn al-Samit was killed, and composed verses reviling a rider who had split the sons of Qayla and broken their unity; the Prophet said: who will deal with this wretch for me? and Salim ibn Umayr, one of the Weepers, went out and killed him; Umama al-Muzayriyya spoke two verses on it.
