Ali ibn Rasul al-Turkmani, founder of the Rasulid state in Yemen; ustadh-dar of the Ayyubid al-Malik al-Mas'ud Yusuf ibn al-Kamil, left as his lieutenant when al-Mas'ud rode sick to Mecca — he deposed al-Mas'ud's son Musa al-Ashraf, took Yemen for himself while keeping the Kamil's da'wa and sending his brothers as hostages of obedience, then died in 629 AH leaving the throne to his son al-Mansur Umar.

كان أستاذ دار الملك المسعود يوسف بن الكامل، فاستخلفه على اليمن لما ارتحل إلى مكة مريضاً. 1

خلع موسى الأشرف بن المسعود واستبد بملك اليمن. وأخذ بدعوة الكامل في مصر، وبعث أخويه رهناً على الطاعة. 1

وفاته

هلك سنة 629هـ (نحو 1232م، والتحويل مشتق) فولي ابنه المنصور عمر. 1

Al-Malik al-Muzaffar Shams al-Din Yusuf ibn Umar, third Rasulid king of Yemen; taking power after his father's killing in 648 AH, he was just and beneficent, assessed upon himself the atawa tribute to Egypt's Turkish kings and kept buying their goodwill, spent his first reign besieging the Damluwa fortress and fighting the Zaydi claimant Ahmad al-Mu'ti who took twenty Zaydi fortresses and Safad — and remained wali of Yemen until he died suddenly in 694 in the forty-sixth year of his rule.
