Overview

Salih ibn Wasif, one of the military commanders in Samarra in the time of al-Mu'tazz. He had a part in the events that led to al-Mu'tazz's deposition, according to al-Tabari 1.

In Samarra

Salih and his companions said to al-Mu'tazz billah: "Write him a deposition", meaning a deposition of al-Mu'tazz himself 1. Salih ibn Wasif was seated in the house, and he commissioned the beating of Ahmad ibn Israil and Abu Nuh Isa ibn Ibrahim 2.

Money and disorder

The clients in the army of Musa learned of what Salih had extracted from the secretaries and from the property of al-Mu'tazz and al-Mutawakkil, and they rioted against those who stayed in Samarra 3.

Notes for researchers

  • This entry is short because most of Salih's reports are on the blurred pages and have not been used. These include pages 425, 446 and 540, which contain sayings not clearly attributed to him.
  • The citations use the scan page number, not the printed numbering.
  • No years are given, because the printed year on the legible pages is not clear.
