Overview

Umm al-Banin bint Abd al-Aziz, a paternal cousin of al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik 2.

With al-Walid and al-Hajjaj

al-Mas'udi reports that she objected to al-Walid sitting with al-Hajjaj while he was in a shift. al-Hajjaj said to al-Walid: "Leave off jesting with women, for a woman is a sweet-smelling plant, not a steward." She ordered him to greet her 2.

What al-Salabi reports

al-Salabi reports that she used to memorise the Qur'an and review it morning and evening, and that she freed a slave every Friday. She returned the gift of Muhammad ibn Yusuf when she learned that he had taken it by force 3.

He reports that she rebuked al-Hajjaj when he came in with al-Walid, and reminded him of the killing of Ibn al-Zubayr 3.
