The Prophet's speech to the Ansar at al-Ji'rana
خطبة النبي للأنصار في الحظيرة بالجعرانة
February 630 CE · Dhu al-Qa'da 8 AH
After the Ansar felt grieved that newly reconciled Qurashi and Bedouin chieftains received large gifts while they received nothing, the Prophet gathered them in an enclosure at al-Ji'rana and delivered an impassioned, tearful address: 'Are you not pleased that people return with sheep and camels while you return with the Messenger of God to your dwellings?', moving the entire gathering to tears.

Summary
A historic, eloquent sermon the Prophet delivered to the Ansar alone in an enclosure at al-Ji'rrana, after resentment stirred in them when Quraysh and the Arab chiefs were favoured with spoils; he reminded them of their merit, their aid and their privilege of his company — and they wept until their beards were wet, accepting him as their share and lot 1.
The sermon's context
When the Ansar saw the lavish gifts go to the new converts of the conquest and the tribes of Najd while they received nothing, one of them said: may God forgive the Messenger of God — he gives Quraysh and leaves us, though our swords drip with their blood! Sa'd ibn Ubada told the Prophet their words, and he ordered him to gather the Ansar in an enclosure none else would enter 2.
From the sermon
The Prophet praised God then said: "company of the Ansar, what is this talk that has reached me of you, this hurt you have found in yourselves? Did I not come to you astray — and God guided you through me; destitute — and God enriched you through me; enemies — and God united your hearts?" They said: indeed — God and His Messenger are most bounteous and most kind 2.
Then he said: "will you not answer me, Ansar? By God, if you wished you could say — and you would be believed: you came to us called a liar and we believed you, forsaken and we aided you, outcast and we sheltered you, needy and we supported you … Do you resent, Ansar, a trifle of this world by which I reconciled people to Islam, while I committed you to your Islam? Are you not content, Ansar, that the people go off with sheep and camels while you return to your homes with the Messenger of God? By Him in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, if the people took one valley and the Ansar took another, I would take the Ansar's valley. O God, have mercy on the Ansar and the Ansar's sons and the sons of the Ansar's sons" 1.
All the people wept until their beards were wet, and cried out: "we accept the Messenger of God as our share and our lot!" 3.
For young visitors
Medina's people were sad because they received no wealth from the spoils, so the Prophet gathered them and spoke tender, loving words: would you be content if the people take the money and camels while you take the Messenger of God back to your homes? They wept with joy and pride and said: we are content with our Prophet.
