Banu Shayban ibn Bakr ibn Wa'il: the Bakr tribe that defeated the Persians on the day of Dhu Qar — the Arabs' first victory over the non-Arabs.
Life
Their chief is Hani' ibn Mas'ud, to whom al-Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir entrusted his family and wealth — and he protected them 1.
When Kisra's marzbans came in Iyas ibn Qabisa's procession, a tremendous battle broke out between the two parties at Dhu Qar, in which Banu Shayban prevailed and the Persians were shamefully routed — the first day the Arabs defeated the non-Arabs 1.
