The commander of the seventy-thousand Abyssinian force which, armed with a Roman fleet, occupied Yemen in 525 CE; he governed for the Negus until Abraha, one of his own generals, assassinated him and ruled in his place.

Overview
Aryat: commander of the Abyssinian army that occupied Yemen in 525 CE and governed it on the Negus's behalf until Abraha assassinated him.
Life
Seventy thousand Abyssinian soldiers landed and occupied Yemen a second time under Aryat's command in 525 CE, on a fleet the Roman emperors had equipped them in vengeance for the People of the Trench 1.
Aryat remained governor on the Abyssinian king's behalf until Abraha — one of his army's commanders — assassinated him and ruled in his place after winning the Abyssinian king's favour 1.
