Umm Sharik al-Dawsiyya
أم شريك الدوسية
A Companion of Banu Daws of al-Azd; she embraced Islam and stayed among her people at Dhu al-Khalasa, enduring their pressure until some of her persecutors themselves converted; after her husband Abu al-Fakr died she offered herself to the Prophet ﷺ, and she is reported to be the 'believing woman who gives herself to the Prophet' of Surat al-Ahzab. Distinct from Umm Sharik (may God be pleased with her) al-Qurashiyya al-Amiriyya.

Overview
Umm Sharik al-Dawsiyya, one of the women emigrants. She was from the women of Quraysh and then of the Banu Amir ibn Lu'ayy, and was married to Abu al-Akrar al-Dawsi 1.
Her Islam and her call in Mecca
Abu Nu'aym reports, from Ibn Abbas, that "Islam came into the heart of Umm Sharik, and she embraced it while she was in Mecca", and that she used to enter upon the women of Quraysh in secret, calling them to Islam and encouraging them to it, until her affair became known to the people of Mecca, and they seized her 1.
Her captivity and transport
The report says that they said to her: "Were it not for your people, we would have done to you, but we will send you back to them." They put her on a camel with nothing soft under her, and left her for three nights without feeding her or giving her drink 1.
The story of the lizards
Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab reports, from Umm Sharik, that the Prophet ordered her to kill the lizards 1.
Notes for researchers
- Abu Nu'aym says that later authors mentioned her and separated her from "al-Amiriyya", and he holds that the latter is the first; it has been said that she was the daughter of Jabir. We have not settled the identity here.
- The rest of the report of her captivity after the three nights is not read on this page. It will be added once the following passage has been extracted.
