Rise
The dispute with Ibn Buya
The two contended for al-Rayy and Isfahan with Rukn al-Dawla ibn Buya. He drove him out of Isfahan in the year 327 AH, then recovered it. He was defeated at al-Rayy by Abu Ali ibn Muhtaj, lord of Khurasan, and fled to Tabaristan. He sought help from Nuh ibn Saman, until he took Gurgan from al-Hasan ibn al-Firzan. He continued to contend with Ibn Buya for the mountains and Gurgan 1.
His year of death is estimated in the data at around 356 AH with a mark of doubt, and the entry needs an additional source.
