The Isra route

درب الإسراء

The earthly leg of the Isra: the Prophet ﷺ's night journey on the Buraq from al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to al-Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, as al-Raheeq narrates it. The text gives no halting places between them. The ascent through the heavens is not a geographic route and is not listed here.

Overview

The earthly route of the Night Journey: from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to the Furthest Mosque in Jerusalem on the Buraq, in the company of Gabriel, as part of the event of the Night Journey and the Ascension 1.

The route

Al-Rahiq states that the Prophet was taken by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Furthest Mosque, riding the Buraq. He then alighted in Jerusalem and led the prophets in prayer 2. The text gives no stations between the two cities and no distance, so only the two endpoints are named here.

The ascent

After Jerusalem the text describes the ascent to the heavens, the meeting with the prophets there, and the prescription of prayer. This is a matter of faith rather than a geographic route, so it is not included in this route 3.

The return

On these pages the text does not describe the Prophet's return to Mecca by a particular road. It says only that he told his people in the morning what he had seen 4.

Note on the order

Al-Rahiq gives the chronology in different accounts and does not weigh between them, so no specific date is attributed to this route 5.
