Overview
In Egypt
Ibrahim once came to Egypt, and the Pharaoh of Egypt attempted a scheme and an evil against his wife Sarah. But God turned his scheme back upon his own throat. The Pharaoh came to know of Sarah's strong bond with God, and out of recognition of her merit he gave her Hajar to serve her. Sarah then married her to Ibrahim 1 2 3. In a footnote the author notes that it is commonly held that Hajar was a slave-woman, but the judge Muhammad Sulayman al-Mansurfuri established that she was free and was the daughter of the Pharaoh. The matter is among those on which opinions differ 1 4.
Her jealousy of Hajar
Ibrahim returned to Palestine, and God granted him Isma'il by Hajar. Sarah became jealous, to the point that she compelled Ibrahim to take Hajar and her small son out to the Hijaz, and he settled them beside the Sacred House 1 5. The details are in the settlement of Hajar and Isma'il in Mecca.
