الكشاف عن حقائق التنزيل
الكشاف عن حقائق التنزيل
Al-Zamakhshari's unsurpassed tafsir — opened first with 'Praise God who created the Qur'an', then emended to 'who made the Qur'an' (ja'ala meaning created, for them), while many manuscripts read 'who sent down' — 'the people's correction, not the author's' 1.

Overview
"Al-Kashshaf an Haqa'iq al-Tanzil" (The Unveiler of the Realities of the Revelation), a Qur'anic commentary by al-Zamakhshari. According to Ibn al-Imad in "Shadharat al-Dhahab", no commentary like it had been written before. 1
Preface
Ibn al-Imad reports that when the author first composed the preface, he began it with the words "Praise be to God, who created the Qur'an". He was told that people would shun the book in that form, so he changed it to "who made the Qur'an", taking "made" to mean "created". Ibn al-Imad says he has seen in many copies "who sent down the Qur'an", and that this was the copyists' correction, not the author's. 1
