Summary

Abbad ibn Bishr ibn Waqsh ibn Zaghba al-Ansari, of Banu Abd al-Ashhal 1.

Badr and Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf

Musa ibn Uqba counts him among those who witnessed Badr, and says he took part in the killing of Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf and spoke verse about it 1.

His merit

A'isha said: "three of the Ansar — none is preferred in merit over them, all of Banu Abd al-Ashhal: Usayd ibn Hudayr, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh and Abbad ibn Bishr" — and Ibn Hajar authenticated it 1. In the Sahih from A'isha: the Prophet heard Abbad ibn Bishr's voice and said: "O God, have mercy on Abbad" 1.

The luminous staff

In the Sahih from Anas's hadith: Abbad ibn Bishr and Usayd ibn Hudayr went out from the Prophet on a dark night, and the staff of one of them gave light; when they parted, each man's staff gave light 1.

Reports from him

Abu Dawud recorded a hadith for him in "The Merits of the Ansar" through Ibn Ishaq; al-Tabarani and Ibn Shahin also recorded a hadith of his — and Isma'il the Judge said of Ibn al-Madini: I know no other for him 2.
