In the Abyssinian emigrants chapter
Ibn Ishaq names him among Banu Abd Shams of those the Negus carried in the two ships, with his wife Amina bint Khalf and his sons Sa'id and Umma, both born in the land of Abyssinia. 1 2 He says he was killed at Marj al-Saffar in the land of Syria in Abu Bakr's caliphate. 2 His father Sa'id ibn al-As perished at al-Zariba toward Ta'if; his brother Aban ibn Sa'id addressed Khalid and Umar in verses when they became Muslim, and Khalid answered him in verses. 2
