عثمان بن يغمراسن بن زيان

Uthman ibn Yaghmurasan ibn Zayyan, second of the Banu Abd al-Wad kings; when his father died at the end of Dhu'l-Qa'da 682 returning from Ténès, he met the bier at Sik, concealed the death to Tlemcen and took the bay'a of elite and commons, writing to the Hafsid al-Mustansir's line for investiture — his father's counsel, per Ibn Khaldun's shaykh al-Ayili quoting Abu Hammu Musa, being never to trust meeting the Marinids in open field but to lean on the walls; he held Tlemcen against Yusuf ibn Ya'qub's 698 siege with Abu Zakariya's aid, the Almohad column broken at Jabal al-Zab in the battle of Marsa al-Ru'us, and erased the Hafsid name from Tlemcen's minbars.

موجز

عثمان بن يغمراسن بن زيان هو ثاني ملوك بني عبد الواد، وقد خلف أباه يغمراسن بن زيان على تلمسان. 1

الولاية

يذكر ابن خلدون أن أباه مات آخر ذي القعدة سنة 682هـ وهو عائد من تنّس. لقيه عثمان عند سيك، وحمله إلى تلمسان دون أن يعلن موته. بايعه العامة والخاصة، وكتب إلى الخليفة الحفصي بتونس فعقد له على عمله. 1

الحرب مع بني مرين

ينقل ابن خلدون عن شيخه الآيلي، عن السلطان أبي حمو موسى، أن أباه أوصاه ألا يلاقي بني مرين في العراء وأن يلوذ بالجدران. ونازل يوسف بن يعقوب تلمسان سنة 698هـ، فأمده الأمير أبو زكرياء بجيوشه، وكانت الهزيمة على عسكر الموحدين بجبل الزاب في معركة مرسى الرؤوس. ومحا عثمان اسم الخليفة الحفصي من منابر تلمسان. 2

يذكر الكتاب أن مملكته اتسعت بين تلمسان وبجاية. المصدر المتاح يحدد الصفحات من 1854 إلى 1856 فقط؛ وسنة وفاته يحتاج إلى مصدر إضافي.

Abu Hammu Musa ibn Uthman ibn Yaghmurasan, sultan of Tlemcen; he singled out his cousin Mas'ud ibn Abi Amir for his privy councils while heaping scorn on his son Abd al-Rahman Abu Tashfin, comparing him unfavourably to that cousin — until the son's M'aluji companions, stoking his envy, rushed the palace at the siesta hour as the council broke up, cut the sultan down with their swords, killed Mas'ud and Abu Sarhan, and massacred the Banu al-Mallah viziers, the Cordoban house of the hijaba — the town-crier going through Tlemcen's streets that Abu Sarhan had betrayed the sultan and his son Abu Tashfin had risen for him.
