Before Islam, the Arabian Peninsula had trading towns, tribes living in the desert, and poets who made beautiful verses.
Long before revelation came, the Arabian Peninsula was a wide land with trading towns such as Mecca and tribes that moved across the desert. People loved poetry, and they gathered at the Ukaz market to hear the finest poems. Some worshipped idols, and there were also Jewish and Christian communities. Islam came out of this land.
Storytellers (10–12) read the Explorers text, then cross to the Scholars text.
The Arabian Peninsula and its neighbours in the generations before revelation: trading towns like Mecca, scattered tribes, poetry and genealogies, and Jewish, Christian and polytheist communities. Our knowledge of this age comes from poetry, reports and genealogies, and each report needs a source that confirms it. Islam grew on this stage; this entry does not set out its rulings.
Summary
The Arabian Peninsula and its neighbours in the generations before the revelation: trading cities, tribes, poetry, and Jewish, Christian and polytheist communities. The museum roughly bounds it from about 500 CE to about 610 CE. These boundaries are the museum's own organising convention and are not absolute.
